Jawad Shah

Youth Work Volunteer

Jawad is a very enthusiastic and friendly 21 year old. He has been a member of Youth Action since 2008 and has been involved in various projects and training courses. Jawad has gained tremendous confidence whilst being at Youth Action and has gained a wide range of skills.

Jawad has now moved on from attending regular youth sessions and is now a volunteer youth worker, Jawad has the opportunity to support the Youth Empowerment Team at Youth Action with the delivery of the regular youth sessions, some of the projects he has helped deliver include the Recycling Project and the Young Career Project. He is currently helping the team plan and deliver the Inter Faith Project with the Youth Advocacy Group.

Jawad commented “I immensely enjoyed my time at YA as part of the youth group, I had the opportunity to take part in new experiences from thought provoking projects, training courses and International projects. I am now volunteering at Youth Action and feel that I am gaining more skills and have the opportunity to be part of noble projects”.

Sumaiya Patel

Admin Volunteer

Sumaiya is 22 years-old and is a Law graduate. Sumaiya was initially part of an employment Programme where she was placed with Youth Action on an Admin placement. Sumaiya had the opportunity to take part in various administration tasks such as managing the switchboard, data inputting, research tasks, training opportunities and much more while she was on her placement. Sumaiya recently come to an end of her placement however as she felt she had gained a lot from her experience at Youth Action, she decided that she would love to continue to help and support the admin team as a volunteer.

Sumaiya has learnt more about team-working skills and has developed many more useful skills with in an Admin setting, as well as making new friends and contacts, and is now a valued member of the Youth Action team.

Sumaiya commented “Volunteering at Youth Action was great, it was a very different experience for me as I haven’t worked in an Admin environment in the past. I really learnt a lot and will definitely continue to be involved with the work Youth Action does, the teams are brilliant".

Hannah Breeze

Press & Policy Volunteer

Hannah is a 20-year-old student who was involved in Press and Policy Volunteering at Youth Action. Hannah studies Journalism with Politics in Preston, and commuted to Blackburn on a part-time weekly basis. She put her skills to use by writing press releases, designing promotional material and helping at Youth Action events. She has gained a lot from her experience, and continues to be involved now.

She has learnt more about team-working skills and has developed many more useful skills, as well as making new friends and contacts. She decided to get involved with Youth Action after seeing the internship advertised on the ‘Do It’ website.

Hannah really enjoyed her time at Youth Action, and said: “Volunteering at Youth Action was great fun. I really learnt a lot, and the teams were so friendly. Volunteering part-time meant that I could continue with my university degree whilst still helping. I would recommend volunteering with Youth Action to anybody.”

silhouette Office Assistant

Assistance required with general administration in respect of office work, supporting the Events Team for Youth Action. This opportunity is based at our Central Office.

You will write stories/ press releases/ case studies for Youth Action. These stories will be published on the website, newsletter and in the local press. The benefits you will recieve is getting practicle experience in the workplace and having your stories published in local and regional news.

silhouette Youth Worker

Youth Action works with 8 - 25 year olds on a number of local projects in the day and at evenings. These consist of fun and rewarding projects and educatuional based themes. Activities also take place in school and college holidays. You will be assist and support stafff and volunteers in planning and delivering a number of community projects.

silhouette Marketing & Communications Internship

Want to promote Youth Action work to get other young people interested in having a say on what matters to them? You will experience different marketing and communications methods across the board - internet, email, mailings, events and more. You will be responsible for designing flyers, adverts, e-bulletins and other marketing and communications documents. You will lead on updating certain areas of our database and our website. You will get involved with special projects, our new brand and Youth Action events.

silhouette Handyman / DIY Help

We are looking for dedicated volunteers to carry out small, low-risk repair and maintenance jobs at the Youth Action premises. Experience and skills in general DIY, joinery and other practical tasks are essential, taking into account health and safety law, policies and risks to others.
